Speckled Ram Fibers

I am fiber artist and purveyor of hand-dyed fibers for spinning and felting. I spin just about every day on one of my five spinning wheels or with a drop spindle. Eventually, time permitting, I want to explore completely tapestry weaving.

For those intersted, most of the fibers I sell via my Etsy shop are wool offerings. I sometimes list other items. To visit my shop stop by the www.speckledram.com. I would love to hear from you.

Sincerely, Pepper
Hand made bookmarks with wool samples from a friend! Each bookmark sports an sample of wool dyed from a specific plant. Alum was used as the mordant for all the natural plant dyes shown. And each bookmark gives a photo of the plant and latin name. I just love these.

I adore this spindle. It spins well and fast. I purchased it from Spinsanity.etsy.com. This photo simply does not do it justice. It is a gorgeous top-whorl wooden spindle. I highly recommend this spindle for lace-weight spinning.
Some details I am quoting…Shaft: hand-rubbed black cherry stain, blunt beveled endTotal Weight: .9 oz/25.5 gmsTotal Length (including hook): 10 inches/25.5 cm

My Louet Victoria wheel is a great little portable wheel. I’ve been so happy with it. I was surprised by how fine I could spin on this little wheel. Even though it is low to the ground, I find I can spin for a long time without experiencing any fatigue.

My new favorite high-whorl drop spindle which I purchased from Dragoncraft on Etsy. The whorl is made from resin — just stunning. This spindle is ideal for lace weight spinning since it weighs only .9 oz.
For beginner spinners, I recommend a heavier whorl, something like 1.6 oz. Romney, Coopworth and some of the longer sheep breeds are perfect for learning how to draft and add twist.

Two of my newest toys — handmade lucets! I bought these lovelies off Etsy from Sistermaide. Check out the free videos on YouTube.com on how to use a lucet.

I bought these Cotswold wool locks from a local farm. The locks aren’t the longest but extremely soft.  They came quite greasey and dirty but I scoured them with some blue liquid Dawn detergent and very hot water. Cotswold is one of my favorite long wools to blend with other wools and spin.

Soft and fluffy Cotswold wool locks! I scoured and dyed these lovely wool locks a periwinkle in celebration of Spring. Spring is almost here!
